Sun Cottage was a former Coaching Inn and bears the date 1723, although parts of the original property pre-dates this. Records show Edward Davies was the Inn Keeper of “ The Sun Inn” between 1699 and 1715. The inn was a stopping point for coaches on the old turnpike road, following the River Dee.
During the mid 1830s, the property became Miss Gethin's School. That opened around 1850 and became known as Sun House. As a school it was a "Boarding School" accommodating seven boarders at a time.
Part of Chirk Castle Estate until 1949, Sun House was sold to sitting tenants who changed the name to what the property is known as now ‘Sun Cottage’.
